Island of Idols will have a 90-minute premiere tonight. This is something you’ll want to keep in mind if you actually watch through broadcast TV! Make sure your DVR is set right. Following this is the Big Brother finale, which means the regular CBS programming for fall TV returns next week.
Island of Idols was created when the Survivor producers wanted to get Boston Rob back on the show. Rob has made it clear in the past that he’s not going to come back to the series because he has no chance of winning. Will this season be any different? It doesn’t matter because Rob isn’t competing this year. He’s returning as a mentor.
For the Canadian viewers, this season will also see the first Canadian citizen contestant on the American series. In mid-2018, Canadian citizens were allowed to apply for the program, but this is the first season to get a chance to showcase someone north of the border.
Americans with dual citizenship in the past had to give up their Canadian citizenship in order to win the prize money! Yes, really! And you can thank licensing for that.
The Canadian citizen is retired NHL defenseman Tom Laidlaw, who is also the oldest contestant this season. There’s also professional poker player Ronnie Bardah and Olympic swimmer Elizabeth Beisel.
