The two movies hail from the late 1980s and star some excellent actors. For The ‘Burbs, we’re looking at one of Tom Hanks’ best movies before he was known as Forrest Gump. In fact, it arguably lead to him landing the iconic role. When it comes to Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, it’s all about Steve Martin and the late, great John Candy together.
Both movies are the sorts you can put on and just laugh at — or with, really. Neither takes itself too seriously, allowing you to join the characters on the wild ride. Sometimes you just need those types of movies to not worry about life and just have fun.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles takes on the standard “stranded miles from home because of the weather” trope and just has fun with it. For the most part, the movie is predictable but it’s not about the storyline. It’s all about seeing Martin and Candy on screen together because they’re the perfect duo.

The ‘Burbs takes the suburban life and turns it on its head. Hanks stars as a suburban husband who is on vacation from work. When new neighbors move in that just don’t seem to fit in, he’s convinced they’re dangerous. What does he end up finding out?
The movies are now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. You can watch them any time you want (at least, for the time being), whether you just need a good laugh or you want to see your favorite actors in some of their best roles.
