King of Thieves isn’t an award-winning movie but that doesn’t make it a bad one. In fact, it’s a great movie when you just want to sit back and watch for enjoyment’s sake. Michael Caine is his standard bank-robbing self, which he still continues to impress with to this day.
Based on a true story about the biggest bank heist in London, the all-star cast takes us through the steps of the heist. But it’s not just about the events leading up to it. We get a look at the aftermath because there really is no honor in thieves.
There are moments that it’s over the top daft, but it never promised to take itself seriously. So, really, the negative reviews are mostly people going in with very different expectations from what the movie trailer as promised.
It only has a 33% score from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but I don’t often listen to the ratings. I’ll pay attention to what I know I enjoy. And this movie is great when you want something to just switch off to.
