By Mads Lennon
Blood and Treasure’s two-hour series premiere is an explosive and extremely entertaining start to the new adventure series.
CBS is kicking off the 2019 summer television season with treasure-hunting, action-adventure series, Blood and Treasure. The opening two-hour premiere was a delightful romp through Rome and beyond as we were introduced to our jet setters, Lexi Vaziri and Danny McNamara.
In tradition with the backbone of these types of series, Lexi and Danny have a past, both romantic and professional. As a former FBI agent, Danny was responsible for arresting Lexi, a notorious art thief. Now he works as an expert antiquities dealer.

The series reunites the two of them as Danny is tasked with a new mission, to find and rescue Dr. Anna Castillo. She was in Egypt on the precipice of incredible discovery, the tomb of Anthony and Cleopatra. The tomb is suddenly invaded, and Anna is kidnapped. Danny recruits Lexi and her very specific skill set to track her down.
The black market bazaar
Lexi and Danny follow a lead to a black market bazaar in Rome. While there, they cross paths with an arms dealer named Aiden Shaw who served as the middle-man in the tomb heist. The duo kidnaps him and takes off with Interpol agents hot on their tail.
They learn Shaw is using a fake identity and he’s not as intimidating as he initially presented. Lexie lets him escape with their car, much to Danny’s anger. But she ensured there was a GPS tracker on Shaw so they could follow him.
Flashbacks
Through flashbacks, we learn how Danny and Lexi met and what forced them apart. Danny enlisted Lexi and her father’s assistance to set up a sting operation to track down a dangerous terrorist named Karim Farouk. He was known for using stolen art to fund deadly attacks around the world.
Unfortunately, the sting went sideways, and Lexi’s father died in the crossfire. She blamed Danny for it. They discuss this briefly in the present-day, with Danny offering Lexi her father’s prayer beads. She admits she found it easier to hate him than to hate herself and they seem to move past it for now.
Farouk returns
Blood and Treasure returns to the present with Lexi and Danny tracking Shaw which leads them to the shocking revelation that Farouk is alive, despite Danny believing him dead, this pushes Lexi into action, and she takes off after him.
Ultimately, this results in both Danny and Lexi getting arrested by Agent Gwen Karlsson, an Interpol agent. She and Danny have some kind of relationship, but it isn’t elaborated on in this episode. They escape from captivity and get back on Farouk’s trail. Eventually, they manage to track him to his vault headquarters where they rescue Anna Castillo.
Anna makes a great addition to the team. With her help, they figure out what Farouk’s goal is. He wants to reunite the tombs of Anthony and Cleopatra. It won’t be easy, no one knows where Cleopatra is located, but Anna has managed to secure a clue. She drew a picture of a medallion discovered in Anthony’s tomb that indicates there is a group of guardians who watch over Cleopatra’s tomb.
Anna also theorizes that the group who initially put Anthony and Cleopatra in the tomb all those years ago were also the ones who killed a group of Nazis that tried to escape with the sarcophagus 75 years before.
The final scene of the episode shows a mysterious room with potentially mystical power emanating from it. We find out the male Interpol agent is a traitor and secretly working for this group!
