We’ve reached the end of Fam Season 1 on CBS. It’s ended without a renewal. Here’s why it definitely needs a second season.

While there are plenty of dramas out there in the world, shows with important messages and intriguing plotlines, sometimes we just need something funny. We just need a guilty pleasure comedy, which is exactly what Fam on CBS offers.

The first season ended on Thursday without getting a renewal. This isn’t all that surprising. With it being a midseason show, it was always likely that CBS would wait until May to announce the fate of the series. The only way it would have been immediately renewed is if it took off on the scale of The Big Bang Theory.

While we wait for news, we have 13 episodes to rewatch as much as we want. CBS All Access has all episodes available on demand, and you’ll certainly likely put one or two on when you just want a good laugh.

And this is one of the reasons Fam needs to be renewed for a second season. But it’s not the only one.

Fam is a show that’s diverse, strong, and heartfelt. There’s nobody to particularly dislike, as each character has their own strength and weakness. We get development and plot, which aren’t that common in first season half-hour comedies.

This is a show that isn’t afraid to try something new while giving us the one-liners and quick laughs that remind us this is a CBS comedy. There’s something different yet the same, adding that sense of comfort in the middle of joy.

We need more shows like this. This is a series that brings some excellent actors with years of experience on stage and screen and mixes them with newer stars, bringing us a good mixture of talent and style.

Out of all the freshman comedies across TV in the 2018-2019 season, Fam is the one I would love to see renewed for a second season the most. Now can CBS just make it happen?
