Colette has made it onto Amazon Adviser’s list of 50 best movies on Amazon Prime Video. It’s time to see where it’s made it and why it’s such an important movie.

Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette is one of the most influential women of the past, but there are high chances you’ve never heard of her. Those who grew up with a love of writing and history certainly would, but it’s the 2018 movie Colette that really brought her story to the forefront of the world. It now joins the list of 50 best movies on Amazon Prime Video.

Starring Kiera Knightly as the titular character, the movie is a fictional account of her life, sticking as close to the facts as possible. Born into a lower class family, Sidonie-Gabrielle married a wealthy man and ended up becoming his ghostwriter. Telling a tale based on her own life, she soon realized that many women loved to read the works.

Of course, with success came expectation. Her husband wanted her to write more and Sidonie-Gabrielle didn’t want to do that. She wanted to make sure the world knew who she was. While eventually that would happen, it took time and it wasn’t without fights and problems. This movie tells that tale, bringing another fight for equality and acceptance to the forefront of media.

Colette received a limited release, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of those movies you need to watch. It holds an 88% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, making it Certified Fresh. Now that it’s on Amazon Prime Video, you will certainly want to check it out.
