STARZ has opted to cancel Counterpart after two seasons but the show is being shopped around. Should Amazon Prime Video save Counterpart?

Counterpart has become the latest show to be canceled. STARZ has decided that the dimension-traveling series does have enough viewers to keep it going, which is certainly disappointing to those who have tuned in weekly or watched on the STARZ app. Now it comes to the show being shopped around. Could Amazon Prime Video save Counterpart?

It’s certainly possible that Amazon would look at saving the series if there’s enough of a fan outcry. The streaming service already saved The Expanse after the fans took to social media when SYFY canceled the series. Plus, with it being on STARZ, there is a reason for Amazon to pick it up instead of another network.

More from Amazon

Almost half of STARZ subscribers come through Amazon Channels. This means the subscribers need to have an Amazon Prime subscription in the first place, so half of the people are already there — and then there’s the other half who may have Amazon Prime already anyway. It’s a no-brainer in that aspect.

Counterpart is also a sci-fi series similar to The Expanse. While the SYFY series focused on the future and a space race and war between Earth and Mars, Counterpart opts for the dimension-traveling. It turns out the CIA has a doorway to another dimension, which opens a can of worms for the main character Howard.

Plus, the series is based in Berlin, Germany. That helps to add allure to an international audience, which Amazon is growing. We just have to look at movies like Cold War and shows like Four More Shots Please! to see that there’s a focus on more international content.

Counterpart is more than just a show, which could also work in Amazon Prime Video’s favor. There are fan-made podcasts, vloggers creating content, and plenty of blogs with the conspiracy theories. Amazon could expand the world on its platform, offering a range of other content to connect to the fanbase.

Right now, all eyes are on the talks to shop the series around. Amazon Prime Video could certainly be one of those in the loop and maybe the viewing figures will work out in favor to save the show.
