Will Amazon Prime raise its prices like other services?
Netflix has already announced it’s raising the costs of its subscriptions. Hulu has now followed suit. Will Amazon Prime do the same? Here’s a look at the chances.
Netflix and Hulu, two of the biggest streaming services, have announced they’re raising the prices of their subscriptions. Netflix is raising all costs, while Hulu is raising the cost of its live TV option (and reducing the cost of its SVOD membership). It brings up the worry that other streaming services, like Amazon, will do the same.
Amazon recently announces that its subscribers had reached the 100 million mark, making it the second most popular streaming service right now. However, will this bring a rising cost? It’s impossible to say yes or no, but there have been no hints right now. With the rising number of subscribers, there’s the possibility the cost will remain low for the time being.

However, the streaming service is definitely facing a threat from other companies. While the threat isn’t as big as that to Netflix and Hulu, there is still certainly a threat. Disney and WarnerMedia are looking at their own streaming services, which could lead to movies and shows being removed from Prime Video, like with Netflix and Hulu’s offerings.

Amazon will need to add more Prime Originals to be able to compete in just Prime Video offerings. To do that, more money may be necessary. However, the company does have the benefit of other benefits to its overall costs, including two-day free shipping, Twitch, Amazon Music, the Kindle Library, and more.
The current 100 million subscribers could certainly help to keep the costs down. It’s worth noting that Hulu is just at 25 million and is dropping its basic plan costs to make it more enticing. This supports the idea that Amazon doesn’t need to raise its prices again.
As much as I don’t want more prices to increase, if it’s for more Prime Originals, I certainly won’t grumble too much. I’ll be the first to bring news of any rising costs if they do happen.
