Amazon Prime Video among top VOD and streaming services in the States
Amazon Prime Video continues to grow in subscribers making it into the top two VOD and streaming services in the United States. It also contributes to other top five figures.
If you’re an Amazon Prime Video subscriber in the United States, you’ve contributed to the good news for the VOD and streaming service. It’s the #2 streaming service in the United States, between Netflix and Hulu. However, it’s also contributed to two other streaming services being in the top five.
This report from Parks Associates and reported by Deadline shows that services with original content are growing in popularity. The last 12 months has seen a long list of new original content on Amazon, including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Forever, Jack Ryan, and Homecoming.

However, the growth isn’t just good for Prime Video directly. HBO and STARZ have also landed top five places behind Hulu, while SHOWTIME and CBS All Access have placed 7th and 8th place respectively. All these subscription services are available through Amazon Channels and it is this service that has been commended for the growth of subscribers across the various VOD services.
A large majority of people on the streaming services are the younger generations, while older generations remain loyal to pay-TV services. This shows the way the world is moving in terms of subscription and on-demand services and is a positive sign for the new streaming services. DC Universe has released its service and now Disney and Warner Bros. are creating their own streaming services.
Fans of shows want their TV on demand. However, it’s worth noting that the top services are those that offer a mixture of their own original content and others’ content. For example, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and STARZ all offer old and new movies and TV shows that previously aired on other networks thanks to licensing deals.
Amazon Prime Video is doing everything right at the moment with the latest table of VOD services. It’s going to be hard to catch up with Netflix, but between its own placement and the Amazon Channels placement, it’s got little to worry about if it continues in the same direction.
