The ultimate guide to reading the Percy Jackson books in order
There are high chances that you’ve jumped straight into the Percy Jackson series on Disney+. This show has been full of hype, especially with Rick Riordan signing off on the storyline. It has stayed true to the books, especially compared to the movies from the 2000s.
Of course, you’ll want to read the books that the series is based on. It’s important to read these in order. You know The Lightning Thief is the first one. This was the first movie and is the storyline for the first season of the series.
There were originally five books in the series. However, Riordan has returned to the series, bringing us a sixth book in the story.
Which order should you read the Percy Jackson books in?
It does all start with The Lightning Thief. This book introduces us to 12-year-old Percy, who has no idea that he is a demigod. When he learns about his powers, he learns that he is the son of one specific god. That is until he meets others like him and it turns out that he is connected to a very different god in Greek mythology.
After that, it’s The Sea of Monsters. This book was turned into a sequel movie, but that’s where the movies stopped.
You’ll then need to follow on with The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and then The Last Olympian.
That is where the original set of books stopped. Riordan wrote The Chalice of the Gods very recently and it was published in 2023. The characters have grown up just like us as readers, factoring in the time between the novels.
Will there be more? We certainly hope so! For now, at least we’ve got a great series to watch, which will hopefully come to DVD and Blu-ray.
