Slayers: A Buffyverse Story canceled (but not really by Audible)
When we learned that a Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off was happening, we were excited. Even with it as an Audible series, we were ready to jump into Slayers: A Buffyverse Story.
Fans around the world tuned in to listen. And this series was popular. So, it is surprising to hear that it has been canceled. However, it turns out that this isn’t because Audible won’t agree to host more.
It’s also got nothing to do with those involved in creating the series. They all wanted to come back to do a second season of the story. So, what’s the deal?
Disney won’t agree to Slayers: A Buffyverse Story Season 2
According to co-author Christopher Golden, it’s Disney that won’t allow a second season to happen. TVLine explains that Disney owns the rights to the series through the ownership of 20th Century Studios. Without Disney allowing it, the work simply can’t go ahead.
It certainly seems shortsighted of Disney. After all, this spin-off has been a success and the fans want more. Disney has yet to offer an explanation.
Will Disney bring a Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off?
Could this be a sign that Disney is considering working on something else? The company may have waited to see how Slayers: A Buffyverse Story worked out to see if there is still a fanbase out there. After all, it has been 20 years since the original series came to an end. Are there enough people interested in the story still going on?
Well, yes there are, and maybe the spin-off has given Disney hope that there is another series to reboot or revive. It’s just a shame for fans of the Audible story that there won’t be more to it. We tuned into those nine episodes for a reason.
Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is still available to listen to on Audible.
