Prime Video lands a Jeopardy! spin-off series (and here's how to apply)
I’ll take “things we didn’t expect to happen for $200, Alex.” Jeopardy! is making a move as a spin-off series lands its home on Prime Video.
No, the original Jeopardy! is going nowhere. That will continue to air on broadcast TV throughout the week. The spin-off series will head to Prime Video, and it’s going to be a chance for those with trivia knowledge to show their stuff.
Currently, Jeopardy! is more academic, but there are a few trivia topics here and there. It’s clear that pop trivia is lesser known by the academics when you watch the clues come out and people go silent. Yet, plenty of people at home are screaming the answers. It’s time for those fans to take part in a version of the series just for them.
How will Pop Culture Jeopardy work?
The new spin-off series will follow something similar to the original series, but it’s a team sport. Each team will have three contestants, and the clues are still in the form of answers. That means the “answer” must be in the form of a question.
Something Amazon didn’t share was what “pop culture” actually meant. We have seen plenty of shows and movies like Harry Potter, Outlander, and Supernatural show up in the OG series in the past. It would make sense to have these types of topics come up in the spin-off, but “pop culture” is fairly huge. Will it include books? Stage productions? Celebrity gossip? There are so many options within this topic.
The FAQs say that “pop culture” covers the following:
"Movies, TV, Music, Broadway, Books, Social Media, Sports, Fashion, Comic-Con, Current & Iconic Events, Fads & Trends, and more."
How to apply for Pop Culture Jeopardy
While the series has just been announced, applications are now open. This is a long process, but it’ll be worth it to put your knowledge to the test.
The first stage is to put your own team together. You’ll need to register with a team name but each individual will need to take their own Anytime Test, which gives you 15 seconds to solve each clue and there are 50 clues in total. The scores for each individual will be added up, and if you pass the test together, you’ll be invited for a virtual audition.
Make sure you’re ready to take the test because you only get one chance per season. There is a practice test on the official site.
The virtual audition doesn’t mean you’ll get to go on the series.
There are no dates given for filming at this point. However, the current audition process does suggest that filming could start up soon.
This is currently only open to U.S. and Canadian residents, and you need to be 18 or older. Been on the original series or applied for it? There’s great news! You can still take part in Pop Culture Jeopardy.
Are you ready to put your pop culture knowledge to the test? I’m sure there are plenty of people out there excited for this. I know I am!
