His Three Daughters probably won't ever be available on Prime Video
While His Three Daughters was released in limited theaters earlier this month, it’s now getting a streaming release. The bad news is that it’s not coming to Prime Video, and it likely never will.
Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Elizabeth Olsen play three estranged sisters. They end up coming together to help their ailing father, although it’s clear that they each resent one another for various reasons. They have to put their personal feelings for each other aside as they deal with their father’s needs.
This is a beautiful story of love and loss. It’s one of learning that everyone has their own needs and feelings, and sometimes, we have to put her personal opinions aside to support each other.
His Three Daughters is now streaming on Netflix
After a successful premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023, Netflix acquired the rights to the movie. It took a year for the movie to be released in theaters, and then weeks more to come to Netflix. That is the streaming platform that you can watch it on right now.
This does mean that it’s highly unlikely to ever head to Prime Video. We can never say “never,” but it’s very unusual for Netflix to put one of its acquired movies onto another streaming platform. It doesn’t make sense for Netflix to do this.
His Three Daughters is unlikely to come to Amazon Video
What about the Digital release, though? This would allow people to at least buy or rent the movie on Amazon Instant Video. It’s unlikely that we’ll see His Three Daughters released in this way. Again, it just doesn’t make business sense for Netflix to do this.
That being said, this is an acquisition and not a Netflix-produced movie. That will likely mean that there is a DVD release coming up. It’s a little like the release of The Irishman and Marriage Story, which saw DVD releases months after the Netflix streaming releases. That is something we'll keep an eye on.
