When it comes to TV shows including something from another show, there is some red tape to cross. Eric Kripke talks about how The Boys was able to include elements of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in.

You wouldn’t think that The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel could ever crossover. They are completely different worlds, with one being a gory superhero series and the other being a comedic period drama. Yet, The Boys did it.

The first three episodes of The Boys Season 4 are out, and one of them involves the vigilantes crashing a bat mitzvah. And that bat mitzvah was “The Marvelous Miss Rachel!”

Jumping through the red tape for The Boys

Eric Kripke shared that it was an idea that came up in the writer’s room. Writer and EP Paul Grellong shared that if they were going to do a bat mitzvah, they should aimed for “The Marvelous Miss Rachel.” Naturally, everyone loved the idea, but that meant talking to Amazon.

The idea would mean including some intellectual property of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel team. To do that, Kripke and co. needed permission. So, they went to Amazon who went to the Palladinos.

Everyone involved in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel loved the idea of the inclusion. This meant that The Boys could include much more than the original idea. It becomes a hilarious moment in the second episode of the series, which continues to push the boundaries of full-frontal nudity!

According to TVLine, Amy Sherman-Palladino hasn’t seen the episode yet. She did say, though, “I’m sure it’s extremely family friendly and tasteful with no mentions of penises whatsoever! Boys will be boys…”

Of course, she’ll know exactly what to expect with the superhero series, so this is all tongue in cheek. After all, that scene is far from being family friendly thanks to Supernatural’s Rob Benedict baring all!
