What's the difference between Freevee and Prime Video?
You already know what Prime Video is. This is a subscription that you already have. There are some great originals and you get access to thousands of movies and shows to stream.
Now you’re hearing about Freevee. This was originally called IMDb TV, but the streamer hasn’t changed despite the name change. Freevee is 100% free to watch, and it is completely separate to Prime Video in the United States.
It’s worth noting before we get into this that Freevee is only available in the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Everywhere else, the Freevee Originals head to Prime Video. That’s the biggest difference between the two.
Freevee and Prime Video are not the same thing
With Prime Video, you need to pay extra for a streaming subscription. In the U.S., this is available on its own but you can also get it included in your full Amazon Prime subscription. Most places around the world, you’ll need a full Amazon Prime subscription to get access to Prime Video.
When you get Prime Video, you get access to all the movies and shows that Amazon licenses for the streamer. You’ll also get access to all of the Amazon Original Series and Movies, such as The Boys, Reacher, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Freevee is completely separate, but you don’t need to pay for it.
To access Freevee, you need a free Amazon account. Amazon licenses shows and movies specifically for this service. You can watch everything for free. You can also watch the FAST channels available, which offer more shows and movies to check out at no additional cost.
Of course, there’s a catch. There are ads to pay for the channel. It’s a little like The CW App if you stream The CW shows via that. It’s also like Pluto TV, Tubi, and other similar ad-supported streamers.
You don’t need Amazon Prime for Freevee. You just need an Amazon account.
If you do have Prime Video, you will find the Freevee content through it.
