Amazon has some bittersweet news for Good Omens fans
Amazon has made a decision about the future of Good Omens. It’s bittersweet news, as while there will be a third season, it will also be the last.
Neil Gaiman gave us hope, and now we finally have some confirmation. Good Omens is officially back for a third season. Crowley and Aziraphale will return to complete the story that they started.
Yes, complete the story. There is some bittersweetness to the renewal news. Good Omens Season 3 is officially the final season.
We do get more than we initially thought we would. When the series was first picked up, it was a limited series and Gaiman didn’t sound like he wanted to continue the story with Terry Pratchett no longer around. However, things changed, and he made it his mission to continue the story to the end.
Why is Good Omens Season 3 the last?
It doesn’t sound like this is wholly an Amazon decision to end the series. It looks like this also comes from Gaiman, who did warn us that there wouldn’t be a fourth season.
The series is based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett. There was a sequel in the works before Pratchett’s death, which was never completed. However, the character of Gabriel was pulled forward from the book to put in the first season of the series. It’s clear that Gaiman and Pratchett had an idea of how to end the entire story, and that’s what we’ll get with the third season.
Gaiman shared with TVLine that he is “finally” able to “finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006.” It’s clear that all he wanted to do was complete the story, and that’s something Amazon has offered him the chance to do.
During the writers strike, he made it clear that there were plans for a third season. That season had already been plotted out. If it wasn’t for the strike, he would have been writing it. That was before the official greenlight from Amazon.
Good Omens is available to stream on Prime Video.
