Mr. and Mrs. Smith was originally set for a November 2023 release, but Amazon chose to push it back to early 2024. Now we have more details about the series.
We were ready for Donald Glover and Maya Erksine in Mr. and Mrs. Smith this year. Amazon was set to release it in November, and then plans changed as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes went on. The show was one of those pushed to the 2024 calendar, although we don’t know if it was due to post-production delays or to help with the 2024 calendar.
Well, the wait for the series is almost over. We have a teaser trailer for it, and with that came a premiere date. Here is everything we know about the series so far.
When will Mr. and Mrs. Smith head to Prime Video?
The show now has a premiere date of Friday, Feb. 2, 2024. Variety shares that all eight episodes of the series will drop at once in the traditional binge-watch release. That could be a way to make up to fans who have to wait for it now.
How many episodes are in Mr. and Mrs. Smith?
As noted, there will be eight episodes to the story. That’s about standard for an Amazon series, now.
Is there a trailer for the series adaptation?
Yes, Amazon has released a teaser trailer for the show. It gives us a look at the story, which is clearly a heavy adaptation of the movie that the title is taken from.
Who stars in Mr. and Mrs. Smith?
The series has an outstanding cast attached. We already knew Donald Glover and Maya Erskine would play the titular characters, whose first names are John and Jane.
They are joined by Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Michaela Coel, John Turturro, Paul Dano, Ron Perlman, Eiza González, Alexander Skasgard, Sharon Horgan, and Sarah Paulson. Many of those faces are in the teaser trailer above.
What is the series about?
We all know the movie, but what about the series? It’s clear that this will follow a different story. The two titular characters know they are both hitmen, and they are working together rather than attempting to kill each other.
Their mission details aren’t clear, but they need to pretend to be husband and wife. They’re working together on this mission, but it looks like everything is falling apart. Are they in marriage counseling for their cover, or because they need to deal with some issues to be able to work together? And why are they such terrible liars when they’re professional assassins?
Well, it looks like they’re not originally trained as spies like the original movie. They are two lonely strangers looking for a job, and they both land one with a mysterious spy agency. There is one thing they can’t do during their mission: they cannot fall in love. Is espionage or marriage the harder and more dangerous business?
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is on Prime Video on Friday, Feb. 2.
