What happened to Susie in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale?
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has come to an end with an epic finale. What happened to Susie in the Mrs. Maisel series finale?
Caution: This post contains major spoilers from the Mrs. Maisel series finale.
The Mrs. Maisel series finale opened with a flash-forward to 1965, where we see Lenny Bruce bomb on stage. Susie is there watching it, and we learn that this is the point she is starting to make it big. She wants to help Lenny (and it turns out Midge was there too), but there’s nothing she can do.
We then get back to 1961, where Susie is sleeping on a park bench. It ends up with her being arrested, and Midge goes to pick her up. This is a great mirror of the series premiere. Instead of going to the diner, which is where Susie took Midge in the premiere after picking her up from the cop shop, Midge takes Susie for coffee and cake.
They have a heart-to-heart. Midge apologizes to Susie for pushing Susie to talk to Gordon Ford’s wife, while Susie apologizes for not doing that sooner. Midge also learns Susie loved the woman back in the day.
Did Susie get Midge on the Gordon Ford Show in the Mrs. Maisel series finale?
It turned out that talking to Gordon’s wife worked. He put her on the show, and Midge was the one to tell Susie the news. This led to them getting Midge prepared, only to find out that she wasn’t going on as a guest. She was going on as a writer to be interviewed about that.
Susie wasn’t happy and turned to Mike to get Gordon to change his mind. That wasn’t going to happen. It wasn’t that Mike didn’t believe in Midge, but that Gordon was clearly sulking.
So, Susie just watched as Midge couldn’t perform. When Gordon cut to a commercial early, Mike made it clear that they needed to fill the four minutes left. Midge had an idea and warned Susie about it. Of course, Susie was ready for Midge to hit it big so she supported her client in what could have been a disaster.
It turned out to be brilliant. Susie just watched in pride and awe.
At the very end, we got a flash forward to 2005, where Susie is living somewhere hot. It’s a huge change from that shoebox of an apartment she had, and there are birds in a large cage. Apparently, Midge sent Susie the big red parrot.
The two are still best of friends. They spend their time watching taped episodes of Jeopardy! together. Susie has retired now, and it’s clear she is ready to enjoy the rewards of her years of hard work. She deserves it.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is available to stream on Prime Video.
