Why did Midge and Susie fall out in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5?
We learned early on in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 that Midge and Susie aren’t friends in the 1980s. Have we found out why that is the case?
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5, Episode 6 gave us an episode all about Susie. It was time to see how she became the manager she is in the ’80s, and we finally got some details of how Joel ended up locked away and why Midge and Susie fell out.
Of course, none of these stories came from Midge or Susie. They are all rumors shared between those roasting Susie at the event for her. It’s Mike who seems to have enough of the story, hearing versions from both Susie and Midge while they were drunk. The two stories had enough similarities to work out what is likely the truth.
It turns out that Joel being in prison is very much to do with this. And it has nothing to do with Midge’s four husbands.
Why Midge and Susie fell out in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
It all goes back to the mob. Susie is in over her head, and Joel is angry that the mob also owns Midge. He decides to offer up himself in return for his ex-wife. He will do what the mob wants, and Susie isn’t about to stop him.
It’s in the temple one day that the FBI comes in. Joel knows that the FBI is there for him so he gives Midge a note and refuses to fight the arrest. He ends up locked up, and Midge finds out that decades earlier Joel made the deal because of things Susie did.
Midge is angry that Joel did this, but she’s angry that Susie didn’t stop him. She’s angry that the mob owned her at one point. She’s angry that all of this had to happen, and she blames Susie for it all. In the end, she decides that she doesn’t want Susie in her life.
That is until the roast. Midge surprises Susie with a video at the very end, where she says that she would like for them to talk. It looks like the two may make up before the end of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
