We would love to see The Lord of the Rings Season 2 arrive on Prime Video this month. That’s not happening, but when could it happen?

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power wrapped its successful first season at the end of 2022. We knew from that moment that it would be some time before we would get the second season. That hasn’t stopped us from keeping an eye on things, though.

Sadly, Season 2 is not on thelist of Prime Video releases in May 2023. With The Power currently airing and The Wheel of Time Season 2 being closer to completion than this series, it’s not all that surprising. Also, this is a series still in production at the moment. It is nowhere near ready for release.

When could The Lord of the Rings Season 2 come to Prime Video?

We are definitely not expecting the show in 2023. You see, this is not a show that can be put together quickly. Just look at the quality of the graphics, especially when you compare to similar fantasy shows like House of the Dragon and The Wheel of Time. There is a huge budget being put into the fantasy elements of this story.

That being said, the series isn’t going to be hit with pandemic closures. It may be hit with the writer’s strike, especially if post-production is halted in support, but production is taking place in the UK and it could fall under different guidelines. It’s very hard to say what could happen here.

Jennifer Salke, the Amazon Studios boss, hinted that production isn’t taking as long as it did for the first season. We could see it in early 2024. We’ll take that!

It would allow Amazon to spread out its fantasy content. We’re expecting The Wheel of Time Season 2 some time this year, so an early 2024 release date for The Lord of the Rings Season 2 makes a lot of sense.
