Tourmaline gets some new character development straight away in Carnival Row Season 2. What are her new abilities, and why did she get them?
The first season of Carnival Row introduced us to Tourmaline. She is a faerie working in one of the brothels on the Row, and she is also Vignette’s best friend. We were promised a bigger storyline for her in the second season, and the show wasted no time in bringing us that.
Right away, Tourmaline starts seeing Aoife Tsigani, played by Alice Krige. The character is also known as a Haruspex, a faerie with the ability to see the future and create the Darkasher. She creates a Darkasher for Philo, and then she learns that Peity was the one to create the Darkasher killing some of the fae.
Aoife is killed by Peity’s Darkasher at the very end of the first season. Howeer, we know that as a child, she was taken to a dying Haruspex to become the next one. Aoife wasn’t fully dead when Philo and Tourmaline found her, and it looks like Tourmaline is the next Haruspex.
Is Tourmaline now a Haruspex in Carnival Row Season 2?
Tourmaline sees Aoife at various points in the premiere episode. When she sees her, Tourmaline also starts to have visions of things that have happened and will happen. She even cut open a cat in a similar way to how we saw animals and people cut open in the first season.
We knew Tourmaline was going to start having visions, and now it looks like we have the reason why. She was left with Aoife at death. The power has to pass on to another faerie, and Tourmaline was that faerie. She’ll want to figure out how to control her power to help her own people get out of The Row.
