Why is Carnival Row ending with Season 2?

Carnival Row Season 2 finally has a premiere date. There is some bad news when it comes to the show, though. This is the final season.

There have been rumors about Carnival Row Season 2 being the last for a while. It doesn’t help that we’ve had to wait more than three years for the new season. Of course this was going to put the show at risk.

Then we heard that production sets had been taken down in Prague. This was a huge sign that there were plans to wrap this show up after the second season. Deadline confirmed the show would come to an end while announcing the premiere date for the series.

Why is Carnival Row Season 2 the last?

What’s the reasoning behind it? That’s not something Amazon has clarified. There are a few reasons this could be the last.

The first is that the pandemic caused filming problems. Then Orlando Bloom didn’t return to filming right away due to the birth of his daughter. So, everyone involved may have realized that the show would be heavily delayed and the writers may have made sure the ending wrapped up to avoid another delay.

Due to the delays, Amazon may have also decided that it wasn’t going to be worth renewing the show. We’ve seen how hard it is to get viewers back, even when a show is heavy in promotion on social media. The Wilds was cancelled after two seasons, and we’re still waiting to hear something about Undone, but things don’t look good. Rather than have a show with another cliffhanger, it’s possible that Amazon has decided to make sure Carnival Row wraps things up with the second season.

Cost will come into it. If there aren’t enough subscribers tuning in for specific shows, the streamers will decide to end a show’s run. If there are subscribers coming in, that means the show is a success and the series is worth the cost.

Contracts may have also come to an end. If not everyone was on board with renewing contracts, it’s possible that Amazon decided the series was best to end. After all, losing major players can lead to people turning away from a show.
