The CW made some big cancellation decisions on Thursday, May 12, and Charmed was one of the shows canceled. Will Amazon save Charmed?
We are used to The CW giving shows a chance to build an audience. We’re used to getting final season orders. Then Thursday, May 12 happened. The CW canceled a number of shows without any warning at all. Season finales will become series finales and fans will just have to put up with it.
Of course, that doesn’t mean fans want to put up with the end of their favorites. So, many are turning to streaming platforms to save the shows. Will Amazon step in to save Charmed from being canceled after four seasons?
Amazon probably won’t save Charmed
There is some bad news. It’s highly unlikely that the streamer will step in to save the witchy series.
There are a lot of factors that go into saving a show. This would need to be something that works toward the audience on the streamer, and this style of fantasy isn’t popular. We get a lot of high fantasy, but not this YA fantasy.
On top of that, it would be very hard for Amazon to step in and save the series. The episodes head to Netflix after the season finales air. This was one of the shows that remained part of the Netflix-CW legacy deal when the official deal came to an end. Only Netflix could step in to save the series because of how this deal was set up.
Plus, Charmed‘s cancellation wasn’t exactly The CW’s decision. It was the studio, CBS Studios., that didn’t want to keep the series going. Without the studio, there isn’t a streamer that can save the series. The studio would need to agree to run the series or agree to let another studio take it up. Either of those is highly unlikely.
Charmed is available to stream on Netflix.
