Will Amazon save Magnum PI?

It’s the time of year when fans learn their favorite shows are canceled or renewed. Magnum PI is canceled. Could Amazo step in to save it?

We always expect big cancellation news this time of the year. May is when the Upfronts take place for the broadcast networks, and they need to make final decisions about their content. It leads to some big shows getting the chop.

In the past, we’ve seen Lucifer, Prodigal Son, Manifest, and much more get canceled. Some of those shows end up being saved, and every year, there is a push for fans of top shows to get streamers to step in to save a show.

Magnum PI was one of the canceled shows in May 2022. This was a shock considering series lead Jay Hernandez thought that the series was safe this year. Could Amazon step in and save the show?

Will Amazon save Magnum PI?

It’s hard to say if any show will be saved this year. It doesn’t always happen, and we don’t always get to see our favorites picked up by another network. There are also no signs that Magnum PI is being shopped around just yet.

However, Amazon does look like a good home. Hernandez said that this was a series that did well internationally. The problem for broadcast networks is that they only look at the U.S. figures. So, we need a streamer to save good international shows.

On top of that, many people will watch the series via Paramount+. This is one of the Prime Video channels, and it is possible for fans to stream via Prime Video by investing into the channel. It would make sense to keep the show on the platform, moving it off Paramount+ and onto Prime Video.

We’ll have to wait and see if the streamers are looking to save any shows. The last time Amazon stepped in, it was to save The Expanse. While Seasons 4 and 5 were great, the final season didn’t quite hit the mark—but maybe there is a movie in the works quietly. It’s time for Prime Video to step in again.

Magnum PI could even work for some of the demo. We saw Reacher and Jack Ryan take off well. Do we need another detective/cop show with Jack Ryan ending with Season 4?
