House of the Dragon is the Game of Thrones prequel we’ve all been waiting for. It finally has a release date, but will it stream on Prime Video?

Game of Thrones fans everywhere are likely excited for the prequel spin-off. As much as we hate the final season of the main series, there is a lot to look forward to when it comes to House of the Dragon.

The new series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It focuses on the Targaryen dynasty back in a time when dragons were still roaming around. Plus, the Game of Thrones showrunners are not involved!

Now we just need to know where we’ll be able to watch it. The series premieres on Sunday, Aug. 21, but can we watch it on Prime Video?

House of the Dragon is not coming to Prime Video

There is some bad news for fans of Game of Thrones and the books by George R.R. Martin. This isn’t a series coming to Prime Video.

Just like the main series, House of the Dragon is going to HBO. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max.

That is good for Prime Video subscribers, though, isn’t it? Don’t we get access to HBO via Prime Channels? This is where there’s some more bad news.

HBO is no longer part of the Prime Channels lineup. That changed last year, and it was expected considering the arrival of HBO Max. HBO Max has never been part of the Prime Channels lineup. You can get the apps via Fire TV, though.

There’s no reason for House of the Dragon to come to Prime Video. It will likely get a Digital release eventually, though. When that happens, it will come to Amazon Video.
