The last Amazon Original release of March is a reality series. Lizzo brings us a hunt for backup dancers in Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.

We’re all ready for the last Amazon Original Series release of the month. March has already brought us some excellent content, and now it brings us a reality series that is designed to bring representation. It’s representation we see very little at all on our screens except as a way to bring jokes that need to go the way of the dodo.

Over the course of eight episodes in Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, Lizzo will hunt down some backing dancers. This is more than what you’d expect to see on the likes of American Idol or America’s Got Talent, though.

Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls synopsis

The series sees Lizzo looking out for backing dancers, but not the usual stick-thin women and muscular men that we’re used to seeing on stages. The superstar wants to bring more representation for the larger women out there in the world.

Larger women can dance and twerk. They have confidence and skills that some smaller women don’t, and Lizzo wants to make sure they stop getting overlooked just because of their size. As a larger woman herself, she knows what it’s like trying to get someone who looks like her on stage or on our screens.

She only wants the most talented dangers. They’ll need to twerk it out on world stages, and they will all join her elite of Big Grrrls.

The series takes us through the audition process. It’s not your standard competition that involves people phoning in. After all, that leads to bias, conscious or unconscious. Lizzo knows who she wants, and it’s going to be up to her who joins her on stage.
