The Horror of Dolores Roach has officially been picked up to series by Prime Video. Here’s what we know about the TV series so far, including the cast and synopsis.

If the title of the project sounds familiar, that’s because it should. Back in 2020, we learned that The Horror of Dolores Roach was in the works. It was just a pilot at the time, and all we knew was that Blumhouse Television would be involved.

Deadline reports the exciting news that the series has been picked up. It will air on Prime Video exclusively, and now we have a few more details about it.

There isn’t a release date yet, but we are going to look at making a prediction. The series has only just been picked up, so it’s unlikely that we will get it before the end of 2022. I have a feeling that this is going to be a 2023 series, and possibly in October. It’s a horror series, so it makes sense to bring it during the scariest month of the year.

There will be eight episodes to the season. They will be half-hour episodes, so this is a little shorter than we’re used to when it comes to Prime Video shows.

Justina Machado will star as the titular character in the series. Fans will know her from One Day at a Time, and we can’t wait to see her back in action.

No other cast members have been announced yet.

We do have to note some of those involved in the project. Naturally, Aaron Mark penned the pilot and is heavily involved as a co-showrunner with Dara Resnik. He created the podcast that the series is going to be based on.

Gloria Calderón Kellett is one of the EPs. She is the EP of Prime Video’s With Love, which debuted on Prime Video in December 2021. She also EP’d One Day at a Time.

The series also sees Daphne Rubin-Vega (who played the main character in the one-woman play and podcast) and Roxann Dawson as EPs. Dawson directed the pilot.

The Horror of Dolores Roach synopsis

Dolores “Magic Hands” Roach is released from prison after 16 years inside. She heads back to Washington Heights with just $200 and the clothes on her back to see the gentrified state it is in now.

When she finds out that her boyfriend is missing and family long gone, she turns to her stoner buddy Luis for room and board. He allows her to give massages for cash from the basement of his own business, and there is hope that she can restart her life.

That is until things get out of hand. Dolors and Luis become dangerously symbiotic with their unexpected professional success. What will happen to Dolores’s brighter future?
