There are a few Amazon shows we’re highly anticipating, and The Lord of the Rings is one of the new ones. The wait for its premiere is still ongoing.

We’ve double-checked the list of releases in January on Amazon Prime Video. Sadly, The Lord of the Rings is not on there. We didn’t really expect it, but that didn’t stop us from wondering if Amazon had changed its plans.

Let’s face it; the pandemic has caused a lot of changes. It wouldn’t be surprising if Amazon had to make a few changes here and there. And it has been a long wait since learning in 2017 that The Lord of the Rings series would happen at Amazon Prime Video.

The Lord of the Rings Season 1 premiere date

There is some good news. While the series isn’t arriving in January 2022, we do know that it is coming this year. In fact, we have an exact premiere date for the series.

The Lord of the Rings Season 1 will premiere on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022. This announcement was made by Amazon in 2021, surprising many of us. It’s not like Amazon usually reveals dates more than a year in advance!

The wait for the season is certainly long, though. Filming wrapped on Aug. 2, 2021. That means the series needs about a year to get through post-production! This could also be to space out the big content as there is a lot that will be ready throughout 2022. However, it gives us an idea of what to expect when it comes to the wait for Season 2.

Yes, Season 2 is already confirmed. Pre-production will start in the UK in 2022, which suggests that it will be 2024 by the time that season arrives at the earliest!
