Christmas is a week away, so this weekend you deserve to take it easy and relax with some great Amazon movies. If you haven’t yet, check out our list of all the new releases on Amazon prime for December. That way, you don’t miss out on anything.

The Grand Tour Presents: Carnage a Trois

While not officially a movie, The Grand Tour Presents: Carnage a Trois is a stand-alone special that wasn’t included in the original December list of releases. A great surprise for The Grand Tour fans.

Filmed during lockdown, Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond will start their adventure in Wales, travel through England to the Channel, then into France. They will give us a look at the strange world of French car culture and check out French arthouse cinema.

It is sure to be another great lockdown special!

Theory of Everything

The 2014 biographical romantic drama, Theory of Everything is now available on Amazon Prime. This film looks at the life of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking and is an adaptation of the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen by Jane Hawking.

Hawking is played by Eddie Redmayne, with Felicity Jones portraying Jane. This story tells of Jane’s relationship with Hawkings from their early years at the University of Cambridge to his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and his success in the field of physics.

The film was praised for the music, cinematography, and Jones and Redmayne’s performances.

 Joy for Christmas

Joy for Christmas is an Amazon original holiday film that releases on Dec. 19. This one is brand new for the 2021 holiday season.

The two main characters are Holly, an entrepreneur who runs the family business, and Jack, a public figure and pro athlete who needs to find joy in Christmas. This holiday season, Holly tries to recreate her family holiday traditions while Jack rediscovers the magic of Christmas. Together will they be able to save her family’s annual charity?

Soul Surfer

Soul Surfer is a biographical drama based on Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board by Bethany Hamilton.

Hamilton tells the story of her life as a surfer who experienced a horrible shark attack where she lost her left arm. The story chronicles the attack and her life after as she is determined to recover from the accident and return to her life as a surfer. It is an uplifting and inspiring story worth the watch.

Directed by Sean McNamara and starring Anna Sophia Robb, Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid, and Lorraine Nicholson with Carrie Underwood, Kevin Sorbo, Sonya Balmores, Branscombe Richmond, and Craig T. Nelson.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins

New to Amazon this month is the comedy Mr. Popper’s Penguins that is loosely based on the 1938 children’s book of the same name.

Thomas Popper Jr. (Jim Carrey) is a successful Manhattan real estate entrepreneur who learns that his often absent adventurer father has died and left him an unusual souvenir from his Antarctica travels. A gentoo penguin named Captain arrives at his door. He tries to return the penguin, but a mistake causes five more to be delivered.

Through his children and some penguins, Popper will reevaluate his life and become the father to his children that he never had.
