5 Best Amazon movies for the weekend

Encounter

Encounter is an Amazon Original Movie that has just released this weekend. This highly anticipated sci-fi thriller was directed by Michael Peare (Beast) and written by Pearce and Joe Barton (The Ritual).

Malik Kahn (Riz Ahmed), an ex-marine, is on the run with his two young sons. His goal is to protect them from an inhuman threat. As they journey from California to Groom Lake, Nevada, they will encounter all sorts of dangers.

The film also stars Octavia Spencer, Janina Gavankar, Rory Cochrane, Lucian-River Chauhan, and Aditya Geddada.

The Usual Suspects

The 1995 mystery thriller, The Usual Suspects, is an outstanding film that gives the viewer many twists, deceits, and violence to answer one question “Who is Keyser Söze?” Directed by Bryan Singer (Bohemian Rhapsody) and written by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher).

This film has a stellar cast Kevin Spacey, Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palminteri, Kevin Pollak, Pete Postlethwaite, Suzy Amis, Benicio del Toro and Giancarlo Esposito. That cast alone makes it worth watching.

The story is told in flashbacks back by Roger “Verbal” Kint (Spacey), who is interrogated as one of two survivors of a massacre and fire on a ship docked at the Port of Los Angeles. As the tale unravels, everything points to a Turkish crime lord, Keyser Söze.

Joe Bell

Have your tissues ready for this one. Joe Bell tells the true story of the Bell family and their experiences with bullying and homophobia.

Mark Wahlberg plays the titular character, an Oregonian father who embarks on a self-reflective cross-country journey to educate people about the terrifying costs of bullying.

The film also stars Reid Miller, Connie Britton, Maxwell Jenkins, and Gary Sinise. Miller has received high praise for his performance in this film.

Snow Day

Snow Day is a fun family comedy that received negative critical reviews but success at the box office.

The title tells what the story centers around. A huge unexpected snowstorm causes school to be canceled to the delight of the students. They make it their mission to sabotage the snowplow driver to cancel school another day.

The film stars Chris Elliott, Mark Webber, Jean Smart, Chevy Chase, Eric Arnold, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Iggy Pop, Pam Grier, John Schneider and Josh Peck.

Little Women

Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women has many adaptations, but this film is my favorite. Little Women is the coming of age story of the March sisters in 19th century New England. The time frame is during the American Civil War and the years following.

The March sisters, Jo (Winona Ryder), Meg (Trini Alvarado), Beth (Claire Danes) and Amy (Kirsten Dunst and Samantha Mathis), couldn’t be more different. Each one has their own unique personality and goals for their future lives.

This adaptation received many award nominations and won several. Director Gillian Armstrong and her crew did a fantastic job with this film.
