Hanna Season 3 is going to be the last. Amazon hasn’t canceled it, but the show is coming to a natural end. Here’s why it’s ending now.

Usually, we just have to wait 10 days and we find out Hanna has been renewed. That’s the way it’s worked the previous two seasons, and we had hoped that would be the case this time. However, the news came ahead of the Season 3 arrival that was somewhat disappointing.

The series is ending with this third season. When you watch how the last episode of the season ends, you’ll get that sense of closure. That doesn’t mean we have to be happy about it. It is okay to be disappointed that your favorite show has come to an end.

However, it’s important to note that this isn’t Amazon canceling a show unfairly. Why did Hanna come to an end after just three seasons?

Hanna Season 3 as the end was always the intention

It turns out that the creators always planned to end the series with three seasons. Showrunner David Farr told Entertainment Weekly, that it was always the intention to end with three seasons. This was the plan set out, similarly to the way Absentia‘s plan was laid for three seasons.

Farr originally comes from the theater, where productions tend to have three acts. He spoke about the Amazon series in terms of acts, and when he planned out the second season, he talked about how the show would need a third act.

When you read the synopsis for the season, it does feel like an ending. Hanna and Marissa work together to take down Utrax once and for all. When you consider taking out the big “villain” from the first two seasons, is there really anywhere to go after that without feeling like a show is being dragged on?
