The Electrical Life of Louis Wain
The Amazon original film The Electrical Life of Louis Wain stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular character, an artist inspired by his pet feline.
Wain became famous for his unique feline artistry, where he painted cats with exaggerated eyes. The film spans Wain’s lifetime from the 1800s into the 1930s. He was a brilliant inventor and entrepreneur who was said to suffer from mental illness that he would eventually be institutionalized for.
Additional cast includes Claire Foy, Andrea Riseborough, Toby Jones, Sharon Rooney, Jamie Demetriou, Aimee Lou Wood, Olivia Colman, Nick Cae, Taika Waititi, and Richard Ayoade.
A Man Named Scott
The documentary A Man Named Scott, recently released on Amazon, is the story of musician and actor Kid Cudi.
The film looks at Cudi’s debut album in 2009 titled Man on the Moon: The End of Day. This album covers topics like depression, anxiety and loneliness. Cudi opens up his life in this documentary that chronicles his career. He has been an inspiration to many and shares a BTS look at his music-making process.
Intimate interviews with Cudi, his friends, and colleagues show the inspiration he has been to them. Guest include Kanye West, Timothée Chalamet, Shia LaBeouf, Willow Smith, Jaden Smith, Lil Yachty, Pharrell Williams, ASAP Rocky and Schoolboy Q.
Love & Other Drugs
Love & Other Drugs is a romantic comedy based on a novel by Jamie Reidy, Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman.
Jamie Randall (Jake Gyllenhaal), a pharmaceutical salesman who works for Pfizer in the 1990s. He has always been able to sell himself to the ladies but finds selling new medicines to doctors isn’t quite as easy. That is until he learns of a new product called Viagra.
He meets Maggie (Anne Hathaway), a young woman who has early-onset Parkinson’s. Their relationship is casual, knowing Maggie’s prognosis, but over time things change for the pair.
Also starring Oliver Platt, Hank Azaria, Josh Gad, Gabriel Macht, Judy Greer, George Segal and Natalie Gold.
The Rocker
The comedy film The Rocker stars Rainn Wilson as a drummer who, after messing things up with his band 20 years earlier, gets another chance to shine. Robert “Fish” Fishman (Wilson) joins his nephew’s band to live out a lifelong dream to be a rocker.
This film is a hilarious look at the life of someone who wished they made it big in the music world. It does a great job of bridging the generational gap in the music world.
Starring Christina Applegate, Jeff Garlin, Josh Gad, Teddy Geiger, Emma Stone, Jason Sudeikis, Jane Lynch, Will Arnett, Fred Armisen, Howard Hesseman, Lonny Ross, Bracely Cooper and Aziz Ansari.
The Faculty
The sci-fi horror film The Faculty was initially released in 1998 and directed by Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn) and written by Kevin Williamson (Scream).
The film stars Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Laura Harris, Josh Hartnett, Shawn Hatosy, Famke Janssen, Piper Laurie, Bebe Neuwirth, Robert Patrick, Usher Raymond, Jon Stewart, Salma Hayek, and Elijah Wood.
Harrington High School’s faculty have been acting a bit odd lately. This is due to an alien parasite that is controlling them. The staff proceeds to try and infect the student body one by one. It is a true slasher film with some sci-fi thrown in.
