5 best Hump Day movies on Amazon for Nov. 3, 2021

Dead Poet’s Society (1989)

Dead Poet’s Society is set at Welton Academy, an elite conservative boarding school in the late 1950s. This film received huge commercial success and many accolades. Robin Williams stars as John Keating, a progressive professor who doesn’t quite fit the mold of the school.

Keating, a Welton Alum and Rhodes Scholar, starts his first year as an English teacher and encourages the boys in his classes to “make your lives extraordinary.” This philosophy isn’t something Welton students have ever been encouraged to do. The students are inspired by Keating’s teaching, which doesn’t sit well with the administration or the parents.

A group of students discovers that Keating had belonged to a Dead Poet’s Society group, something that was kept hidden from the administration. The boys restart the club, giving the boys the courage to do things they really want to do; this isn’t the Welton way or what their parents desire for their futures.

The film also stars Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, Gale Hansen, Norman Lloyd, Kurtwood Smith, Dylan Kussman, George Martin and Lara Flynn Boyle.

Gnomeo & Juliet (2011)

We get to one of the Hump Day movies for the kids. The animated twist on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet titled Gnomeo & Juliet is a fantastic computer-animated romantic comedy. The story is loosely based on Shakespeare’s work and is a movie you will watch again and again.

The movie features the voice talents of  James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Jason Statham, Maggie Smith, Ashley Jensen, Stephen Merchant, Matt Lucas, Jim Cummings, Julie Walters, Richard Wilson, Patrick Stewart, and Ozzy Osbourne.

Set in Stratford-upon-Avon, two gardens owned by feuding neighbors, Miss Montague and Mr. Capulet, are inhabited by gnomes who come to life when their owners leave for the day. The gnomes are based on characters from Romeo and Juliet, and it’s quite entertaining to see all sorts of animated garden gnomes and lawn ornaments.

The movie has an amazing soundtrack featuring music by Elton John, Nelly Furtado, and Kiki Dee. This is one movie that will delight children and parents.

Sleeping With the Enemy (1991)

Sleeping With the Enemy received negative critical reviews, but the box office reflected that viewers didn’t feel the same. The film broke the record for the highest domestic opening for a movie with a female lead.

Laura Burney (Julia Roberts) lived an idyllic life with her perfect husband, Martin (Patrick Bergin). But, things aren’t always what they seem. This psychological thriller reveals that Martin is obsessive and controlling and has been physically, emotionally, and sexually abusing his wife throughout their four years of marriage.

One night the couple goes sailing with their neighbor, even though Martin knows Laura fears the water and cannot swim. A storm rolls in unexpectedly, and Laura is swept overboard. Her body is never recovered and Martin mourns his loss.

But, once again, things are always as they seem. This movie will go on to tell you more, but I won’t ruin it for you. Trust me; it is a thriller worth your time.

Jingle All The Way (1996)

Many people count the days to Nov. 1 to start their Christmas binge-watching. Amazon has released Jingle All the Way and its sequel Jingle All The Way 2 to get you started. They’re perfect Hump Day movies for the whole family.

This movie is a hilarious look at parents with the goal of obtaining the must-have gift of the season for their child. Jingle All The Way was inspired by the Christmas sell-out items like Cabbage Patch Dolls and the commercialization of Christmas.

We see two fathers played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad, hard-working men who don’t always have time for their families. When they find out that their child’s Christmas wish is to receive the popular Turbo-Man action figure, both fathers set out to make their child’s wish come true.

The movie follows the antics of the men as they will g to any lengths to prove they are the better father and prove to their child they love them with the gift.

The movie also stars Rita Wilson, Phil Hartman, Jake Lloyd, Robert Conrad, Martin Mull, Jim  Belushi, Laraine Newman, Harvey Korman, Richard Moll, Curtis Armstrong, Danny Woodburn, Chris Parnell, and Verne Troyer.

Cast Away (2000)

Cast Away was directed and produced by Robert Zemeckis and stars Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt, and Nick Searcy. The film is a favorite of fans of Hanks, and he did a fantastic job in this movie.

Chuck Noland (Hanks), a FedEx employee, travels on a cargo plane that crashes during a storm. He survives by using the life raft, but the emergency locator is ripped off. He washes onto an uncharted and uninhabited island. As FedEx packages wash ashore, he uses them to survive, including a volleyball he names Wilson and serves as his only companion on the island.

It is a tale of the human spirit and what a person can endure when they have the will to live. It is an outstanding movie, and Hanks does such a great job conveying all of the emotions one would go through while trying to fight to live another day.
