Is The Wheel of Time Season 2 coming in 2021?

We’re still waiting for the arrival of The Wheel of Time Season 1, but we know Season 2 is happening. Will The Wheel of Time Season 2 come in 2021?

There isn’t much longer left to wait for The Wheel of Time Season 1. It premieres next month with three episodes dropping at once. Like many other Amazon shows now, it’s getting a hybrid release format and after the first three, the show will get a weekly release.

The great news is we’re going into this season knowing that The Wheel of Time Season 2 is happening. Filming has already started, and that hopefully means the time between seasons is short. Is it short enough to bring the season in 2021?

The Wheel of Time Season 2 release date predictions

Don’t expect The Wheel of Time Season 2 in 2021. Filming started during the summer, and there simply isn’t enough time to get through all stages of production for a 2021 release.

Besides, a 2021 release doesn’t make sense. The first season is going to wrap up on Friday, Dec. 24. With Christmas and New Year after that, releasing shows just isn’t in Amazon’s best interest. Sure, the shows will be waiting for us afterward, but Amazon will want to get the timing just right to make sure shows stand out and are watched fully.

It usually takes 14 to 18 months between seasons. That is usually due to filming not starting until much closer to the release date. There’s a chance with the earlier filming that we could get The Wheel of Time Season 2 before the end of 2022. This is going to depend on the graphics needed.

There are already changes to the cast. Our sister site Winter Is Coming reports that main character Mat Cauthon is getting a new face. Barney Harris will play the character in the first season but Dónal Finn is stepping in for the second season. We don’t know why that is happening, but it’s going to be interesting to see how it changes the show.
