5 must-watch movies on Amazon for October 6, 2021
Fools Rush In
This film is one I just adore. Fools Rush In is a fun romantic comedy starring Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek. I was shocked to see this was released way back in 1997.
The story follows Alex Whitman (Perry), an architect sent to Las Vegas to oversee the construction of a nightclub. He has a meet-cute with a stranger free-spirited Isabel Fuentes (Hayak), they have a fling, and when they meet again, well, there is a surprise in store for Alex.
It is a light-hearted, fun romantic comedy with one of the best lines from a movie: “You are everything I never knew I always wanted.”
Since it is October, the remaining four recommendations will be horror-themed.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
This is a great slasher film that is a franchise with three films (all available on Amazon) and a series that will be released on Amazon on October 15. I Know What You Did Last Summer is the first film of the series, and overall it’s an excellent traditional slasher film.
The film is inspired by a 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan. One year after accidentally hitting a pedestrian and covering up what happened, four friends are stalked by a hook-wielding killer. The film also draws some of its inspiration from urban legend known as The Hook.
The film stars some great names from the ’90s, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Freddie Prinze Jr., Anne Heche, and Johnny Galecki.
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is a zom-com (or zombie comedy) and is a humorous look at what could happen in a zombie outbreak.
Three high school friends, Ben, Carter, and Augie, are recruiting more people for their Scout group. When an outbreak occurs in their peaceful town, they enlist the help of Denise, a gorgeous and badass cocktail waitress, to help them save the town.
This film is hilarious, fast-paced, and over the top. If you enjoy movies like Shaun of the Dead, this one is for you.
The Mad Hatter
I have only learned of this move today, and since it is National Mad Hatter Day, I had to include this one. The Mad Hatter film has nothing to do with Alice in Wonderland. It is a horror film that was released in May 2021.
A group of classmates and their professor head to the “Mad Hatter” mansion for a weekend psychology study. The mansion is supposed to be haunted by those who died in a fire during a party in the 1880s. The mansion’s caretakers are an odd group, and eventually, the students will meet with a being known as the Mad Hatter.
One redeeming thing about this film is that horror icon Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, Devils Rejects) stars as the head caretaker.
It is a campy film that will fill the need to watch those sorts of horror films this Halloween season.
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane is a film from 1977 starring a 13-year-old Jody Foster and Martin Sheen.
This film is a horror mystery that focuses on a young girl Rynn (Foster), who lives alone in a small Quebec town. She leads a mysterious secret life, but when her nosey neighbors start poking around, Rynn enlists a neighbor’s help to keep her dark secret safe.
The film received some criticism for a nude shot that was assumed to be Foster but was actually a 21-year-old body double.
Since the release of the film, it has gained a cult following. Critics have been harsh, but viewers love this film. Foster won a Saturn Award for Best Actress for her role in the movie, and the film won the Saturn Award for Best Horror Film. It was also nominated for Saturns for Best Director, Supporting Actress and Writing.
