After making his directorial debut with The Rental, Dave Franco is directing an Amazon project. Get ready for Somebody I Used to Know.

The Rental is certainly one of those movies that sticks with you. It follows a sort of premise of The Open House, where the killer is someone nobody knows. That’s going to change with Franco’s next project.

This time, the movie is focused on a woman returning to her hometown and reminiscing about her past. It’s something we all do, especially when there’s a big change. It could be the need to move back home due to job losses, a divorce that’s happened, or the loss of a partner, parent, or child. Either way, moving home can lead to a lot of memories that were once locked away.

Somebody I Used to Know will come to Amazon Prime Video, according to Deadline. Alison Brie has co-written the movie and will also star in it. She’s joined by an outstanding small cast so far.

What is Somebody I Used to Know about?

Brie plays Ally, a workaholic who heads to her hometown for a trip. While there, she starts thinking about her ex-boyfriend, Sean, played by Jay Ellis. She thinks about all the choices she once made to get to where she is now.

Not all those choices are good. Will she feel guilt for them? Will they help her get back the man she once loved?

Things are about to get even more complicated when she comes across Cassidy, played by Kiersey Clemons. Cassidy is a younger woman who reminds Ally of the woman she once was. Will Ally find the spirit she once held within her?

This is a step away from the thriller The Rental. It’s a rom-com type movie but brings the genre into the modern day.

So far, there’s no release date. Casting has only just started and filming will be underway soon. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on plans for Somebody I Used to Know.
