Happy Hump Day! Today we get to that midweek hump and hope we can get through it with ease to slide into the weekend. There are some great choices for movies on Amazon to help make it a bit easier to handle whatever this week brings your way.

This week some great new content is releasing on Amazon and you don’t want to miss out on these.

Amazon has an amazing list of original films and shows that you must check out. This week we are recommending some great original movies to get you through your Hump Day slump.

5 must-watch movies on Amazon for August 18, 2021

Sound of Metal

Sound of Metal is an Academy Award-winning film the follows the journey of a musician who loses his hearing and desperately tries to do anything he can to restore his hearing so he can get back to playing the music he loves.

Riz Ahmed does an outstanding job immersing the viewer into a soundless world as he portrays Ruben Stone, a drummer who loses his hearing. You feel his frustration and despair as he looks for a solution to restore his hearing.

Sound of Metal was filmed over 24 non-consecutive days and has received critical acclaim for the screenplay, sound design, and Ahmed and Paul Raci’s performances. It also stars Olivia Cooke, Lauren Ridloff, Mathieu Amalric, and Michael Tow.

This film brings light to the deaf community and American Sign Language.  A large number of the cast was hired from the deaf community giving real representation.

Wonder Wheel

This period drama is set in the 1950s at a Coney Island amusement park. Wonder Wheel is a Woody Allen film based on his fond memories of spent at Coney Island as a child. The film’s title comes from the name of the park’s famed Ferris wheel.

The film centers around four stories that are intertwined amidst a picturesque Coney Island amusement park. Mickey (Justin Timberlake) is a lifeguard with aspirations of being a playwright. Ginny (Kate Winslet) and Humpty (Jim Belushi) are a married couple whose lives are majorly disrupted by the appearance of Humpty’s long-estranged daughter Carolina (Juno Temple).

Wonder Wheel was met with mixed reviews but did receive praise for Winslett’s performance and Vittorio Storaro’s cinematography.

The Lie 

This psychological thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat. The Lie is an Amazon Studios film produced by Jason Blum under his Blumhouse Television banner. This film serves as the first installment in the anthological Welcome to the Blumhouse film series.

When a teen, Kayla (Joey King) confesses to killing her best friend, Britney (Devery Jacobs) her parents become desperate to cover up her actions. The film takes many twists and turns that take the family down a path they never wish they’d traveled.

It also stars Mireille Enos, Peter Sarsgaard, Cas Anvar, Nicholas Lea, and Patti Kim.

I’m Your Woman

I’m Your Woman is praised for the direction of Julia Hart and the performance by Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).

This crime film follows a woman who is forced to go on the run when her husband, a professional thief, goes missing. The couple is unable to have a child or even adopt one and one day the husband brings a child home for his wife to raise. When he comes up missing one of his associates brings her money and tells her to flee with the child.

Rotten Tomatoes has given this of the movies on Amazon an 80% stating “Smart, sophisticated, and subversive.”

PINK All I Know So Far

This documentary is a behind-the-scenes look into Pink’s Beautiful Trauma tour.

PINK All I Know So Far, is directed by The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey and chronicles the performer’s life as a mother, wife, performer, and businesswoman. This tour started in March of 2018 and was extended until November of 2019 and is the second highest-grossing world tour ever by a female artist.

Pink, her husband Carey Hart, and their children travel the world and have given fans a glimpse into their lives with this documentary.
