Looking for something good for the weekend? It’s the first-of-the-month drop, which means there are some great movies on Amazon to check out.

It’s been a while since we’ve done movie recommendations for the weekend. Some of the weeks have been so quiet that there’s been very little to recommend. Well, this weekend involves the first-of-the-month drop.

Most of the recommendations for movies on Amazon are for Sunday. However, we have a recommendation from earlier in July to check out on Saturday. And remember, there are still some great TV show releases from during this week, including The Grand Tour: Lochdown.

The full list of Aug. 1 releases can be overwhelming. That’s why we’re narrowing it down with top picks.

5 must-watch movies on Amazon to watch this weekend

Jolt

We’ll start with the movie for Saturday. Jolt arrived on Amazon Prime Video on July 23. If you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, now is the time to do so.

Kate Beckinsale stars as Lindy, a woman who goes into a supernatural-strength rage when she experiences injustices. She’s trying to control herself, but that’s not all that easy when the man she thinks she could have a life with is murdered. Now she needs to figure out who did it and why.

Catch Me If You Can

One of my favorite movies is Catch Me If You Can. Sure, it’s not critically acclaimed, but it’s a fun movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. It’s based on a true story.

DiCaprio plays Frank, a con artist and fraudster who is wanted by the FBI. Hanks is the FBI agent who tirelessly hunts Frank down. Who will win?

Hook

There are some excellent Robin Williams movies to watch, and one of those is Hook. It drops on Amazon Prime Video on Aug. 1, so it has to be one of the movies on Amazon to watch this weekend.

The story needs no introduction. You’ve likely seen it multiple times. Williams plays a grownup Peter Pan who has to return to Neverland to get his children back after Captain Hook kidnaps them.

Jaws

We’re cheating a little here. There are four movies on Amazon to watch in the Jaws franchise. All four drop on Amazon on Aug. 1.

When a shark starts terrorizing the people of Amity, a group of specialists need to figure out what to do. The first movie is the best, but you’ll want to see the entire franchise and make a weekend of it. Well, make a Sunday of it!

The Lincoln Lawyer

Matthew McConaughey stars in the last of the movies on the list. The Lincoln Lawyer is a legal thriller based on a book, and it follows Mick Haller, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of his Lincoln Town Car.

He wants to make sure the people who need his help the most can get it. That least to him driving around the country to offer his services.
