Jolt

This new release film from Amazon is a high-energy action flick that is a must for action movie fans. Jolt follows Lindy (Kate Beckinsale), who is afflicted with an intermittent explosive disorder that causes her to break out in extreme episodes of anger and violence.

As a child, she was institutionalized and then eventually entered the military. The idea was to get her condition under control, but as they trained her in combat skills, making her a walking weapon, they could never get her rage under control.

Stanley Tucci plays Lindy’s therapist Dr. Ivan Munchin, who created a way to control her rage. As with most action films, there is a bad guy, a supposed good guy, a bad group of people who want to hurt the main character, etc. This film has all that and more, including a great dark comedic element.

The film also stars Bobby Cannavale, Jai Courtney, Laverne Cox, David Bradley, Ori Pfeffer and Susan Sarandon.

If you dig a good action film, be sure to check this one out.

The Lost City of Z

Films adapted from books is a popular trend that seems to be ever-growing. The Lost City of Z is another one in that category. Based on the same-titled book by David Grann, and is an account of an explorer’s real-life events in search of an ancient lost city in the Amazon.

Charlie Hunnam portrays explorer Percy Fawcett, a British officer who feels the need to do something extraordinary to restore his family’s good name. He embarks on a journey to survey land in Brazil. He is joined by Corporal Henry Costin (Robert Pattinson) and an Amazonian scout Tadjui (Pedro Coello). Initially, he pushes aside the story as a local legend but then discovers that there may be some truth to this tale.

Hunnam and Pattinson are joined by Sienna Miller, Tom Holland, Angus Macfadyen, Ian McDiarmid
and Franco Nero

The film follows Fawcett on his journey and all the ups and downs in the life of an explorer in the early 1900s. Critics have given mixed reviews but most lean towards favorable, sighting the cinematic beauty and Hunnan’s believable portrayal of Fawcett as positives in the film.

Fanboys

This hilarious film looks at a group of high school friends who are avid fans of the Star Wars franchise. Fanboys follow the group in their quest to make one of their member’s final days of his life spectacular.

The setting is 1998; this is before Star Wars has released Episode I: The Phantom Menace. A group of high school friends reunites at a Halloween Party, and although many of them haven’t advanced past high school maturity, they all discover they still have a great love for the Star Wars franchise. When one of their friends is given four months to live with the Phantom Menace released six months away, they decide to infiltrate Skywalker Ranch and steal a copy of the film’s rough cut.

Starring Jay Baruchel, Dan Fogler, Sam Huntington as Eric Bottler, Chris Marquette, Kristen Bell, David Denman, Christopher McDonald, Billy Dee Williams, Danny Trejo, Ethan Suplee, Seth Rogen, and Isaac Kappy.
