We’re getting closer and closer to The Wheel of Time premiering on Amazon Prime Video. Here’s everything we know about the release date, cast, and more so far.

There still isn’t an official release date for the series. It’s been in the works for a long time, and we’re sure it’s going to arrive sometime this year, but we’re still waiting for confirmation.

The good news is The Wheel of Time Season 2 is officially happening. Amazon is so certain that this show will be a success that it’s renewed it early. We can watch the first season without worrying about how it will end. A cliffhanger will be resolved.

But we need the first season, right? When can we expect it to arrive, and what will it involve? Here’s everything we know about The Wheel of Time so far.

The Wheel of Time release date

While there isn’t a release date, there are some clues as to when the date could be. We’re looking at the end of 2021. Our sister site Winter Is Coming spotted that the novel The Eye of the World is getting a rerelease on Nov. 4, 2021. It even includes “SOON TO BE A MAJOR AMAZON PRIME TV SERIES.”

With that in mind, we’re looking at either November or December 2021 as a release date. If not, then January 2022 is the latest, but I don’t think we’ll be waiting into the new year.

The Wheel of Time episode count

There will be eight episodes in the first season of the series. The titles of six episodes have been revealed:

Episode 1: Leavetaking

Episode 2: Shadow’s Waiting

Episode 3: A Place of Safety

Episode 4: The Dragon Reborn

Episode 5: Blood Calls Blood

Episode 6: The Flame of Tar Valon

The Wheel of Time cast

There is a huge cast connected to the series. However, there are some notable characters you’ll be waiting to see come to the screen. Who will be playing them? The first season includes the following:

  • Rosamund Pike as Moiraine
  • Joshua Stradowski as Rand al’Thor
  • Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara
  • Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara
  • Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon
  • Madeleine Madden as Egwene al’Vere
  • Daniel Henney as al’Lan Mandragoran
  • Michael McElhatton as Tam al’Thor
  • Álvaro Morte as Logain Ablar

There have been a few character videos released to give us a snapshot of who the characters are and to gear interest in the series.

The Wheel of Time trailer

There isn’t an official trailer for the season just yet. With the show just finishing up filming recently, the post-production stage is still happening and we’re not expecting a trailer until a little closer to the release date.

There are a lot of character videos and teases though. It’s more than worth following the official Twitter feed for all the goodies for the series.

The Wheel of Time synopsis

The first season is mostly going to follow the first book. There may be some elements of the second book included. Amazon’s official synopsis for the series is:

"The Wheel of Time follows Moiraine, a member of the powerful, all-woman organization of channelers (magic users) called the Aes Sedai, who takes a group of five young people from their home village following an attack by the forces of the Dark One, an evil entity who seeks to destroy the Pattern (Existence). Among these five, she believes one might be the reincarnation of the Dragon, an ancient hero and powerful channeler who is prophesied either to save the world or destroy it."
