The Underground Railroad is a harrowing but eerily beautiful series on Amazon Prime Video. Here’s what we know about The Underground Railroad Season 2 so far.

Based on the Colson Whitehead novel of the same name, The Underground Railroad tells us the story of Cora Randall’s bid for freedom from a Georgia plantation. It’s set in a world where the railroad is real and not a metaphor, but there are many real elements added in.

It’s an uncomfortable series to watch at times, but that’s the point. We get that reminder that history isn’t nice. There’s a darkness to history that we can’t be allowed to forget.

Barry Jenkins gives us the story in such a beautiful way when it comes to cinematography. There’s no doubt that it’s left us wanting more, especially with the way the story ends. After all, just like the book, we don’t really know if Cora successfully gets to freedom.

The Underground Railroad Season 2 release date

Right now, the second season isn’t confirmed. In fact, it’s probably not going to happen. Jenkins envisioned this as a limited series, and it does tell us the whole source material.

That being said, plans can change. We know Big Little Lies was considered as a limited series before it was eventually renewed. So, there is a chance, but it is unlikely.

If Season 2 does happen, we’re looking at between 14 and 18 months between seasons. That means July to November 2022 at the earliest.

The Underground Railroad Season 2 cast

Should the series be renewed, we’d need Thuso Mbedu back as Cora Randall. After all, it was mostly her story, with a few others added in there to get other perspectives and understand the drive behind people.

An alternative option would be to tell someone else’s story, and maybe eventually find out that Cora did, in fact, get to freedom. This could allow the other person from the first season show up, especially in the towns that Cora went through.
