The Underground Railroad is a beautiful series based on the book of the same name by Colson Whitehead. Will there be more to the story? Is The Underground Railroad Season 2 happening?
Barry Jenkins is a master at telling beautiful and creative stories packed with emotion. It tells the story of Cora, a young slave who escapes her Georgia plantation. She heads to the Underground Railroad, which is not the metaphor that it was of the real past. As she travels to safety, she avoids Ridgeway, a bounty hunter who is still angry that he never captured Cora’s mother.
Throughout the 10 episodes, we watched the story of the book transform to the small screen. It has certainly been worth the wait and the hype. Of course, the question now is whether there’s going to be a second season.
Will Amazon renew The Underground Railroad for Season 2? It may not be up to Amazon.
The Underground Railroad Season 2 probably won’t happen
I hate to bring bad news, but The Underground Railroad Season 2 is probably not going to happen. I won’t say it definitely won’t, but this is one of those shows that was sold as a limited series.
The first season wrapped up the source material. According to Bustle, Jenkins said that he wanted a short series to tell the tale. This wasn’t about drawing out a story for a major multi-season series, and instead about honoring the source material. There was just too much to tell the story in a movie, but enough for a limited series.
That being said, there is always a chance of the show being adapted further. We’ve seen it happen with other shows billed as limited series, including Big Little Lies and The Great. However, everyone would need to be on board, and it doesn’t sound like Jenkins would be.
