When will The Underground Railroad Season 2 come to Amazon Prime Video?
The Underground Railroad is a beautiful story in terms of cinematography, but horrifying in terms of story. It’s certainly left us wanting more. When is The Underground Railroad Season 2 coming to Amazon Prime Video?
We know the real Underground Railroad was actually a number of men and women who helped escaped slaves make it to the north to safety. Harriet Tubman is one of the most famous members of the Underground Railroad, but she doesn’t appear in the Amazon series.
The series isn’t based on the real Underground Railroad. It’s based on Colson Whitehead’s novel that is set in an alternate world. The railroad is a very real railroad in this series, although the horrors of slavery and people trying to capture runaway slaves are still very much a part of the story.
With the way things ended, there are still some questions. Will The Underground Railroad Season 2 happen, and when will it come to Amazon Prime Video?
Don’t expect The Underground Railroad Season 2 to happen
The bad news is there probably won’t be a second season. The series was always written as a limited series. Barry Jenkins knew that there was too much material for a movie, and just enough for a 10-episode limited series.
The limited series gave us a chance to explore more than just Cora’s journey. We got backstory on a few characters, mainly Ridgeway, the bounty hunter after Cora throughout the series.
There’s no real need to continue the story. While there were a few questions, they’re just questions that life brings us. The individual storylines were wrapped up well, and we got the source material from start to finish. Yes, there were a few changes here and there, but nothing that disrupted the story or caused problems in the end.
If the show is renewed, we’d be looking at 14 to 18 months between seasons. So, if we do end up with The Underground Railroad Season 2, we’re looking at between July and November 2022 as a release.
