Is The Expanse renewed for Season 6?

There are some excellent Amazon shows to watch right now. One of those is The Expanse. Is there going to be a sixth season of the series?

The Expanse is an excellent sci-fi series that is more than just planet-hopping and exploration. It’s a political show at its heart. Even though it’s set hundreds of years in the future, there are storylines that connect to the world today.

Based on the novels of the same name by James S.A. Corey, the series is set hundreds of years in the future at a time when humankind has colonized the solar system. Mars has broken away and become a militarized nation, while the Belt has become disenfranchised after being unfairly treated by Earthers and Martians alike.

The series starts with UN Security Council member Chrisjen Avasarala, James Holden and his crew, and Detective Josephus Miller find themselves in the middle of a conspiracy that threatens the entire solar system.

It’s certainly been on a huge journey. The first three seasons aired on SYFY before it was unceremoniously and shockingly canceled. Fortunately, Amazon stepped in to save the series, and that’s where we find it now.

Has The Expanse been renewed?

The great news is The Expanse has been renewed for Season 6. However, the news came with a disappointing fact. It will be the final season of the series.

Will there be a Season 6 of The Expanse?

Amazon renewed the series ahead of the fifth season. We knew going into Season 5 that it didn’t matter how it ended. We were definitely going to get answers to any cliffhangers left over.

While it is disappointing that Season 6 will be the last, there’s some good news that comes with that. This wasn’t an Amazon cancellation, but a show decision. It all links to the books. In the book series, there is a time jump, which would mean aging up actors and bringing in new characters. Instead of doing that, the show decided it would be best to end the show with the storyline just before the time jump.

When does the new season of The Expanse start?

The season has only just started filming, and it probably won’t be finished and ready by the end of 2021. Well, there’s a very slim chance that it could be ready for December 2021, but this isn’t something to rely on.

We’re looking at around February 2022 at the earliest. And yes, we’re expecting the season to release with the hybrid model that Season 5 had.
