A new weekend is here, and it’s a great weekend for movies on Amazon. We got the big first-of-the-month drop, and here are five must-see movies this weekend.

Whether you want action and adventure, romance, or a thriller, there is something for everyone when it comes to the movie releases this weekend. May 1 brings almost 50 movies to Amazon Prime Video, and IMDb TV has another great selection.

The bulk of this list comes from Prime Video, but there is a movie on IMDb TV that you’ll want to check out on Sunday, May 2. After all, this is all about the full weekend, right?

Let’s dive into the five top picks for movies on Amazon this weekend, May 1–2, 2021.

5 movies on Amazon worth checking out this weekend

The Sixth Sense

We start with arguably M. Night Shyamalan’s best movie ever made. It’s full of his usual twists, and I promise not to give them away if you’ve somehow never seen this movie before.

Bruce Willis stars as a child psychologist to help a young boy who can see dead people. This young boy is understandably scared of his gift, but he soon learns that it might be a blessing rather than a curse.

The Age of Adaline

If you like romantic movies with a fantasy twist, The Age of Adaline is worth checking out. Blake Lively stars as a young woman who is forever stuck at 29 after a freak accident. She has to go on the run and avoid forming attachments with anyone to protect her secret.

When she falls in love with a man, she has to decide whether she will still keep running or if she will finally tell someone the truth. The problem is it means heartbreak unless she can find a way to start aging again.

Resident Evil

Like sci-fi and fantasy movies with some action? The first two Resident Evil movies are on Amazon Prime Video right now.

They are based on the video game franchise of the same name. A woman goes up against a company that released a biotech that turned some people into zombies. While she goes up against the company, she also needs to protect herself from the living dead.

Nanny McPhee

What about something for the whole family? Both Nanny McPhee movies are available to stream, and the children are sure to love them.

The movie is a little like Mary Poppins, although Nanny McPhee is not practically perfect in every way. Instead, she has flaws that disappear as the children in her care start to behave. Once all her flaws are gone, her work is done.

Snowpiercer

For the last movie, we’re turning to IMDb TV, and it’s not arriving until Sunday, May 2. Chris Evans and Jamie Bell star in Snowpiercer from Parasite director Bong Joon-ho.

If you’ve seen the TV series on TNT, you’ll have an idea of what to expect. However, while the two formats are about the same train and with the same apocalypse storyline, they’re not set in the exact same world. In the movie, Evans leads a Tailie rebellion for the engine, learning about some of the horrid truths about Snowpiercer along the way. Can they get to Mr. Wilford and take him down?
