If you go into TV shows with trigger warnings without much care, watch out for Them Episode 5. It is the most horrifying episode of the series.

If you’ve been fortunate enough to live a safe and privileged life, you may not even notice trigger warnings that pop up. Or maybe you don’t really understand the need for them.

Those who have suffered from trauma or do find some types of scenes disturbing, trigger warnings are treated a little more seriously. Even though I take them seriously, I wasn’t quite ready for what would happen during the episode.

It’s one of those episodes that you may want to skip. I wouldn’t skip all of it, but I would skip that scene if I knew what was coming.

Why treat the Them Episode 5 trigger warning seriously

Trigger warnings make it clear that something dark is going to happen. While things got twisted with the first four episodes, the trigger warnings weren’t there. It was clear that all the violence before was nothing compared to what would happen.

That should have been a big giveaway. It goes to show that we can’t assume what the trigger warnings are about?

What happened in the episode?

For Lucky’s part of the story on Them Episode 5, we find out what happened to Baby Chester. The four white attackers and killers—who wouldn’t be brought to justice—played a game called “Cat in the Bag” which ended up killing Chester. Lucky was also sexually assaulted, although that wasn’t as graphic as the game of “Cat in the Bag.”

This episode also looked back at other Black families moving into the area, also noting the covenant that Lucky saw at the start.

According to TVLine, Deborah Ayorinde found the scenes difficult to. You’re not alone in wanting to skip over everything.
