What is The Affair about?
Based on Simon Mawer’s The Glass Room, Carice van Houten plays Hana, the friend of Hanna Alström’s Liesel. At least, Hana starts as just a friend.
The two are married, but they begin to have feelings for each other. It’s illegal at the time, but they can’t deny their true feelings. Things start to get harder when the Nazis gain power. Not only do the Nazis hate anyone who isn’t heterosexual, but they also hate Jews. Both women are married to Jewish men, putting their lives under a microscope.
The movie has received mixed reviews. It’s one of those for fans of period dramas, but also one for fans of van Houten. She gets a much larger and more powerful role than Game of Thrones. It’s also a beautiful movie worth checking out.
