Women of the Year anthology series picked up at Amazon

Based on TIME’s 100 Women of the Year project, filmmaker Alma Har’el will bring the anthology series Women of the Year to Amazon.

Deadline shared the exciting news about the anthology series. It comes a year after the TIME 100 Women of the Year project, which focused on the 100 most influential women from 1920 to 2019. These women ranged from actresses, innovators, activists, and more. They all changed the way of the world, pushing forward innovations and paving the way for many more women who would come after them.

That’s a lot of women to cover! It will take time to get through all 100, but for now, the focus is on a small group. It’s not clear how many episodes there will be, but Amazon shows are usually between eight and 10 episodes.

What to expect on Women of the Year

The anthology series will focus on one woman per episode. This isn’t a deep look at the woman’s full life, but a look at the 24-hour period that made her “woman of the year.”

These 24 hours are often filled with pivotal moments that can sometimes be glossed over to focus on the whole life. However, the impactful day is the reason we know these women as well as we do.

As well as focusing on women, Har’el is making sure there are more women involved in the project overall. Each episode will be directed by a female filmmaker. And it will be a different female behind the lens on each episode, showcasing the personal takes on how history played out.

Har’el, best known for Honey Boy, will executive produce with Christopher Leggett under her Jellywolf banner. Time Studios and P&G Studios will also executive produce.

Pre-production work will start now. We don’t know which women will be the focuses for the first season yet. Stay tuned for more updates.
