Will Lord of the Rings premiere on Amazon in 2021?

Fans have waited patiently for Lord of the Rings for the last three years. Is the wait nearly over? Will we get the Amazon series in 2021?

Yes, it has been more than three years since we first heard about the series. It’s had cast changes and production shutdowns, but it is still going. Amazon is so confident in it that it already has two seasons order, but it is planned as a five-season series.

And yet, we know nothing about it. All we have are rumors, the confirmation that it’s not a remake of the movies, and a recent synopsis thanks to The One Ring.

What we don’t know is when Lord of the Rings will premiere. Still! Will it be in 2021?

Lord of the Rings could come late 2021

Right now, Amazon Studio’s Jennifer Salke wants the series to premiere in 2021. It makes sense considering how patient everyone has been with the series.

There is hope for that, too. The first two episodes are now in post-production. Filming for the rest of the first two seasons started in January 2021. With eight to 10 episodes per season (although this goes against previous reports about Season 1), it is possible to get through the filming of the first season and go through post-production by the end of the year.

The creators could even ask Amazon to release the content weekly like The Boys and The Expanse. This will help to keep the show on the public’s mind for longer, helping to ensure it gets the five-season wish. With a weekly release, the last few episodes of Season 1 could get through post-production while the first set of episodes are airing.

There’s no need to wait for Season 2 to finishin filming. The good thing about the seasons filming back-to-back is that it will cut down the wait time between the seasons. We could get Season 2 in 2022.

If Lord of the Rings Season 1 doesn’t premiere in 2021, we should be able to expect it in 2022.
