Is The Expanse Season 6 happening?

The Expanse Season 5 finale was emotional but also set things up for another season. Is The Expanse Season 6 going to happen on Amazon Prime Video?

Let’s just start with the good news. Amazon renewed The Expanse for a sixth season ahead of Season 5 premiere. It was certainly great news for fans, but it came with some bad news.

The Expanse Season 6 is going to be the last of the show. This isn’t purely an Amazon decision. It’s got nothing to do with the weekly release affecting ratings the way some people thought it would. Like The Boys, the weekly release has worked out in favor of the streaming service and the show, keeping more people talking about the sci-fi series for longer this season than for Season 4.

Instead, the decision is a creative one. It’s time to end the story in the way the showrunners originally intended thanks to Amazon saving the series after the unfair cancellation after the third season.

What can we expect on The Expanse Season 6?

The season has been written as the final season. Storylines will be wrapped up, and we’ll see how it all comes to an end for the Roci crew.

Sadly, we do know how it came to an end for one of the members of the crew. Alex made his sacrifice for the crew, dying at the end of the fifth season. We did wonder if he would die or just disappear a little like Dawes due to the way the season had filmed before the investigation into Cas Anvar and his subsequent firing.

Of course, then the big question is who will pilot the Roci? That was answered at the end of the finale. Clarissa (or as Amos loves to call her, Peaches) has officially joined the Roci crew and it’s so good to have another woman on board.

When will The Expanse Season 6 be on Amazon Prime Video? That’s a whole other question that we don’t have an answer to yet. More to come on that.
